Review by Anouk Timmerman

The Revolutionaries' album IRA is a masterpiece of reggae music that captures the essence of the genre's golden era. The album features a range of classic tracks that showcase the band's exceptional musicianship and their ability to create timeless music.

The album starts with the upbeat and energetic "Kunta Kinte," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The track is a perfect blend of reggae and funk, with a catchy guitar riff and a driving rhythm that will get you moving.

The album also features some great vocal performances, with tracks like "Can't Take It Anymore" and "Jah Can Count On I" showcasing the Revolutionaries' ability to work with different singers and create music that is both powerful and soulful.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "MPLA," a tribute to the Angolan People's Liberation Army. The track features a haunting melody that is both beautiful and poignant, and it is a testament to the band's ability to create music that is both meaningful and memorable.

About The Revolutionaries

Jamaican backing band, in-house session band for 's label. Built around drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Ranchie Mc Lean - later replaced by Robbie Shakespeare - the band featured at various times fellow Kingston musicians Earl 'Wire' Lindo, Radcliffe 'Dougie' Bryan, Ansell Collins, Bobby Kalphat, Lloyd Parks, Uziah 'Sticky' Thompson, Bongo Herman, Stanley Bryan, Bo Peep, Eric 'Bingy Bunny' Lamont, Errol 'Tarzan' Nelson, Skully Simms, Robbie Lyn, Mikey 'Mao' Chung to name a few. Everything fell into place when they backed The Mighty Diamonds classic 1976 set 'Right Time'. The album offered fresh new Rockers rhythms to the reggae world. This militant double drumming style dominated the music scene from 1975-1978. It's from this period that a set of classic dubs were created by Bunny 'Striker' Lee from sessions recorded at Channel 1. The Revolutionaries mark the first time that the legendary duo Sly & Robbie played together.

Great stuff charlie, recorded back in the day when practically every thing that came out of channel one was quality, so sad to see the channel one recording studio now empty and derelict especially knowing that just about every top musician and vocalist in jamaica had recorded there at sometime or other when in my opinion reggae was at its very best ?????
