Review by Arron Street

Gypsy Jazz, the latest album by Kálmán Balogh & The Gypsy Cimbalom Band, is a delightful musical journey that takes the listener on a tour of the traditional Gypsy music of Hungary. The album features Balogh's virtuosic cimbalom playing, which is the centerpiece of the band's sound.

The album is a mix of traditional Hungarian folk music and jazz improvisation, with Balogh's cimbalom providing the melodic foundation for the band's improvisations. The band's instrumentation, which includes violin, accordion, guitar, bass, and drums, creates a rich and vibrant sound that is both lively and soulful.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Csárdás," a traditional Hungarian folk dance that is given a fresh and modern twist by the band's jazz-inspired arrangement. The track features a fast and furious cimbalom solo by Balogh, which is complemented by the band's driving rhythm section.

Another highlight of the album is "Roma Swing," a lively and upbeat track that showcases the band's ability to blend traditional Gypsy music with jazz improvisation. The track features some impressive soloing by the band's violinist and guitarist, who trade licks with Balogh's cimbalom.
